Whether you like it or not, aging is something we all have to go through. However, the way you age can vary based on a variety of factors. Have you ever noticed that some people seem to stay young-looking forever? It’s not by accident. There are habits, behaviors, and even treatments that can help your skin look young for years — without having to get invasive plastic surgery. So, in today’s post, we’re going to look at 3 tips to keep your skin looking young!
Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure
Though sunlight provides you with healthy nutrients like Vitamin D, it can also be your skin’s worst enemy. Years of direct exposure to the sun may give you a beautiful tan, but it will do untold damage to your skin. More specifically, excessive sun exposure can damage your skin cells, give your skin a “thick” appearance, and increase the size and severity of wrinkles. In short, the sun can make you age faster.
So, whenever possible, try to avoid staying out in the sun for long periods of time. If you have to be out in the sun for work or other reasons, make sure to use ample protection. Any part of your body that will be exposed to the sun should be protected with suntan lotion (a minimum of SPF-30). Additionally, you should regularly reapply suntan lotion at least once every two hours.
Avoid Smoking and Alcohol
Sometimes, you have to make some big sacrifices for beauty. If you smoke or enjoy drinking alcohol on a regular basis, you’re inadvertently speeding up the aging process. Moreover, hundreds of studies have shown that smoking can greatly increase the risk of cancer, while drinking can cause damage to the liver. Thus, stopping these habits is a win-win for your body.
If you find it difficult to completely cut alcohol and/or tobacco out of your life, do your best to use them in moderation. The less often you drink or smoke, the less damage you’ll be doing to your skin. Reducing your intake of tobacco or alcohol will help slow the aging process and keep your skin looking young for as long as possible.
Consider Non-Invasive Medical Treatments
Many people assume that plastic surgery is the fastest and most effective way to look young, even as you age. While plastic surgery is one option, it is expensive and can sometimes do more harm than good. Plus, there’s always the risk of the procedure going wrong, which could leave your face or body with permanent damage.
Fortunately, there are plenty of non-invasive, anti-aging treatments and procedures. Two of the most common treatments for skin are dermaplane and microdermabrasion. Though these are similar procedures, they differ in how they are carried out. Microdermabrasion helps remove old skin using a “wand,” while dermaplaning literally removes old skin and even hair by shaving off the top layer of skin cells with a medical blade.
